Milage routes for city & towns (not freeways)

Who publishes riding routs for inner cities, towns? In other words; It would be nice just to go "on line" pick your route like on "MAPQUEST" and detrmine the milage thus you could set your time limits, food requirements, etc. I love to mix buisness with my passion, I just tried using mapquest to help me in just such as case. Mapquest will always give you a freeway and not the side streets.Aghh...Anyone know of anyother service that can provide such info?

Fast Freddy, "give me an open road and give you the miles"

Some local Bike Clubs publish ride maps for their area that show low traffic routes and have both cue sheets and mileage figures. You might be able to find help there.

Also, many state Tourist Bureaus and/or Departments of Transportation have specific bicycling maps available for the asking. You should be able to find information about them on-line.

Try the Adventure Cycling Association's Cyclist Yellow Pages, http://www.adventurecycling.org/cyp/index.cfm.
Here's their lists for the US: http://www.adventurecycling.org/cyp/us.cfm
and for worldwide: http://www.adventurecycling.org/cyp/ww.cfm

Here is a link to the bike/ped coordinators for each state: http://www.bikewalk.org/contacts_links/state_bikeped_coord.htm

The bike coordinators have a wealth of information that they can distribute for no charge. Most every state publishes a bicycle map of their state that they will send out for free....and while the maps aren't as detailed as ours, they generally offer suggested roads for cycling through their state. Some states, such as Colorado and Wisconsin, have outstanding information, while other states are much simpler. But every little piece of information can help.

Hope that this helps.
