TransAm or Northern Tier?
« on: April 17, 2005, 12:37:36 am »
Hi,
I am planning on going East to West, leaving from New York City in late May. I am still deciding the route.

Can anyone recommend one over the other? Northern Tier or TransAm?

Thanks very much,
Max

This comes up periodically. I hope some one at AC is listening and
planning to add a route that will use the C&O canal and Allegheny
passage, connect it to Ohio's route F and provide a branch up to
Monroeville IN (Northern Tier), or somewhere west of Falls of Rough
(KY) to connect to Transam/western express.

Sorry, I guess that doesn't help much.

We had the same decision to make.  However, For us, going across the great plains in July was not appealing.  So, we opted for the Northern Tier.

Factors that you should consider include when the passes in Washington state and Logan Pass(Glacier NP) open (not a factor for those going west).  Also, consider the heat of summer.
