So. Cal- Ariz. - No. Mexico Question
« on: September 19, 2005, 12:07:15 am »
Howdy all,
We are about to head south from Portland, OR bound for Guanajuato, Mexico.  I am familiar with the Adventure Cycling route from south of LA across Arizona and the central route through Mexico from Aqua Prieta.

Does anyone have suggestions for either or both of the following possible route options:
1.  A more direct way from coastal California (i.e. Santa Barbara area) to Douglas (or even Tucson), AZ?  I see lots of possible roads, but don't know how busy they are; it would be swell to avoid LA if we can!

2.  Any experience or guidance for taking roads along the Western (mainland) Mexican coast?  We have heard anecdotaly that the roads are busier and less safe, but could easily be convinced to take that route if it has been tested and approved.

We'll be in that area in November - December.  Thanks for your input and happy riding!
