Cross Country Trip

In June of this year, two 62 year old college buddies are going to "attempt" a cross country trip.  We plan to start June 1st and need to back before Labor Day.  We are presently undecided as to where to start and would like opinions of more experienced riders.  This will be a self-contained trip.  We are both avid bikers and in pretty good shape.  My buddy is leaning toward starting in San Francisco and I am leaning toward starting in somewhere in Oregon.  We plan on finishing in Yorktown, VA.  Any advice would be most welcome.  Thanks  Rick Barder Beloit, WI

Hi Rick. The best single source of advice, IMO, is the How-To Department accessible from the Adventure Cycling home page. You can read journals of other cyclists at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/ for as long as you care to.

This forum is a good place to discuss more specific questions. Do browse around for a while.

I would highly recommend one of the Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) coast-to-coast routes: Northern Tier, Southern Tier, or  Transamerica.

I've done some of my own routing, and I've followed some of the ACA routes. The ACA routes win hands-down!
