Trans Am Route Camping spots

My wife and I are planning on biking the Trans Am route this summer. We have the Adventure Cycling maps and it appears that there are relatively few places (campgrounds)to camp along the route, especially since we plan to only bike about 50 miles per day. We were wondering what other people have done when there are no campgrounds. Also, are there families along the route that are willing to let bikers camp on their property?  If so, how do I find out about them? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Our group did the TA last summer, east to west. The ACA maps identified numerous overnight options for the communities we passed through. Many of the towns offered city parks for bikers. The majority had showers, pools (free), barbecues, and even covered pavillions in case of rain. We often met other tourers at these parks. Churches, too, often offered sleeping areas plus. With planning, you can ID churches in communities not mentioned in ACA maps and contact them directly about your needs; we found a number of pleasant overnights this way.
