Northern Tier East--West start late May?

Any thoughts on starting the N. Tier route in Maine in late May?  I was thinking that perhaps I could avoid some of the sticky hot stuff by starting that early and working west.  What do you think?

You will be crossing the very vast midwest in July-August I think.  Very windy vast midwest.  90s to 100s are pretty much common in the daytime.  On more than a few nights it doesn't really cool down.  80s at night in a tent is not cool.  Its also humid in the midwest.

I'm not sure there is really anyway to avoid riding through the midwest plains in July-August from the coast unless you start really early or late.  Your plan might avoid the eastern hot sticky stuff, but you're just postponing the hot sticky stuff to the midwest.
