WHICH ROUTE?

My goal is to bicycle coast to coast doing it sections at a time which will allow me the best weather in each section I ride.I will have the option of the Northern tier or TransAm. I read tons about the transam and not as much about the norther tier. Adding up the pluses and minuses is one better than the other, and if so in what way? Would appreciate any advice.

Well, I have done the Northern Tier, and have not done the Trans Am.  

We selected the Northern Tier because Kansas in July did not look too appealing.  Also, Maine is closer to home than Virginia.  

Part of your decision depends on what part of the US are you more interested in?  We find that every part of the US has it's own charm and appeal.  I wouldn't say that one ride is better than the other, just a different experience.

I'm also considering an east to west tour either using most of the TransAm or most of the North Tier.  In the summertime.  I'd also be keenly interested in any members thoughts on this.
