Im riding with upslim to Portland and am looking at the route as it goes to the northern part of Glacier National and drops South.  We are riding unsupported and will be camping, so the obvious question is, how is the camping situation in Glacier and what about bears?

Go to the Glacier Park web site - http://www.nps.gov/glac/ and put "camping" in the search box. You'll get all the information you could possibly want. It's a great web site.
This will be a real detour for you but the Going-to-the-Sun Highway is one of the scenic wonders of the country. I'll do it again one of these years.

Hi b:

I rode this route, unsupported with 5 others riders in 2006. Camping was fine in that area: we stayed at Glacier Campground (private), where they also have a restaurant. We never saw any bears, but we had to protect our food from chipmunks and raccoons. We were unable to do the 'going to the sun' highway because it was still closed due to snow, so we took the Marias Alternate. You may want to take a look at my BLOG for a little more info.

Looks like b10348 and upslim are on the same topic. This is just a suggestion b10348, but you should probably put future posts on the thread upslim started.

Have a great trip.

Camp grounds in Glacier have biker only camp sites.  So, it's not an issue.  Just show up.  And these sites have bear boxes, so bears are not an issue either.
