Shipping bike to Seattle area?

HELP!!  I'm flying to Seattle on 5/22 to start my Norther Tier trip and my
previous arrangements to ship my bike have fallen through.  Does anyone
know of a good place (bike shop) and method to ship my bike to?  I'd
prefer to ship it to a bike shop since I'm not as savvy with putting it
together as I wish I was.  Thanks in advance for any help.

When we did the Northern Tier in 2004, we shipped out bikes to the cycle shop listed on the ACA map:  Skagit Cycle Center.  I called ahead and they corrected the address:  1620 Commercial Ave.  The address listed on the map was for the warehouse.

We shipped the bikes UPS ground (oversize) and allowed 2 weeks.  UPS or most bike shops will box up a bike for about $40.

Hi Bis.

Is this the ACA Northern Tier Expedition? If so, your info from ACA will have listed a couple of bike shops in Anacortes that will accept and assemble your bike. I did the ACA Northern Tier Expedition on 2006, and the two people who used the ACA listed bike shop were completely satisfied.

If not an ACA Expedition, your ACA maps will have listed bike shops in the area in which you are starting. Call a bike shop and see how they can help.

If you're no using an ACA route, maybe Google can help.

I live in Sammamish which is a Seattle suburb. If you still need help, contact me and I can give you references for Bike shops in the Seattle/suburban areas.   ernieg at computech.com

Hi, Bishop,

If you're starting your tour in Anacortes, Skagit Cycle Center (360-588-8776) can probably help you out. In 2005, I had my bike shipped there, and it was tuned, ready, and waiting when I arrived. I used Sports Express as the shipping agent. Probably not the cheapest, but they insure the bike and guarantee their delivery date. Skagit Cycles understandably doesn't want to take up a lot of their space with bikes and shipping crates, so I arranged the bicycle delivery date at Skagit to coincide with my own arrival date in Anacortes, and I set up the Sports Express shipping dates, pick-up and delivery, to work for both parties. Everything went off without a hitch, and the bike was in fine tune when I picked it up. Again, you might find a cheaper method, but the peace of mind was worth it to me. I made sure to send Skagit a postcard when I arrived in Bar Harbor!

Hope that the rack and fork issue was resolved to your satisfaction. Have a great ride!   BC

Mary K:

I'll certainly keep my eyes open for you two.  I'm sure you've seen that the pass is open!  I'll bet it's still pretty cold up there though.

...and others...thanks for the shipping advice.  Now that I've got the arduous task of my front fork/rack nightmare straightened out I can begin with shipping my bike to Anacortes.  I'll most likely ship to Skagitif they can accomodate.

Thanks again everyone,

Bill

Hi again Bish.

Very impressive web page - puts my Northern Tier site to shame. I note you haven't yet updated your 'front rack' episode.

Unfortunately, I will be about 60 miles off your route, or I would offer you a hot shower, soft bed, and a good home cooked meal.

Paul:

Thanks for the compliment on the web page.  I owe my friend the graphic
artist ALL THE CREDIT!  I got the fork/rack SAGA straightened out.  You
can read this in the gear section.  Titled T2000...

Thanks BC:
Called the guys @ Skagit and they're waiting for my bike.  It was truly effortless.  Not much longer now!

Hi Bill,

I'm starting the Northern Tier the 22nd and am flying into Seattle the 20th.  I'll be taking my time over the mountains so my riding partner can catch up to me and I'll be taking a detour to Chelan, WA for a couple days. Maybe we'll see each other on the road
