C&O Canal to Skyline Drive to Blue Ridge Parkway

Couple of quick questions:

1. Anybody got a good route between the C&O Canal Trail and the start of Skyline Drive?

2. Is the Blue Ridge Parkway murder in August? I'll be traveling north to south getting off somewhere around Boone, NC

Re the BRP in August:  the parkway is a tough but great ride, I live nearby (central VA) & spend a lot of time up there on the bike.  It's usually 10 or 15 degrees cooler than in the valleys on either side.  There are lots of ups and downs but the grades are pretty even, and the pavement quality generally good.  Traffic volume is usually not that bad during the week; more traffic on weekends.  There will be some motor homes & lots of motorcycles, I have never found it to be a huge detraction.

As for getting down to Front Royal (start of the parkway) from the C&O, I've no useful knowledge.
