Rt 39 in WVa

Any info on what the traffic is like on Rt 39 running thru WVa ? Planning to ride from Oh to Lexington,Va

I live along Rt. 39 near the monongahela national forest between Richwood and Marlinton (hillsboro) and bicycle all over this area.Its rugged and scenic however like most of wva it has very little shoulder and logging trucks to deal with,however if this doesnt bother you too much I think you would be ok.If you need help getting through this area I would gladly help you, just let me know.

Thanks for the feedback Hondo. I was planning to ride from Ravenswood to Lexington. No shoulders/Logging trucks don't bother me.As long as I don't have alot of car traffic. I figure traffic would be a little heavier nearer towns/villages. I'm used to riding on State Routes here in Ohio. Any other alternatives along that route would be appreciative.   I have'nt checked yet.But any camping info would be helpful.

Summersville to Marllinton will be a good workout. No services from Richwood until Buckeye (33mi.)Kennison Mt.3988ft.coming out of Richwood.Camping opportunities all along this section.A visitor center (water)before descending into Millpoint where 39/219 join before splitting at Marlinton.If you want you can take "old buckeye rd",a right before the gas station in buckeye, go across the blue bridge and take a left (north) onto the greenbrier river trail (4 mi.) into Marlinton which joins back up to 39.its hard packed rock but a road bike could handle that much.The rest is just to follow 39.Have fun.

Where is Millpoint in relation to Marlington? I've been using Google Earth to do some advance scouting of the roads, and I don't see it.  You're info is great though. I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew. I knew the roads in WVa would be alot tougher than SE Ohio. But I figure I'll just take my time at them.

Follow Rt.39 30 miles East past Richwood and you will come to a road junction 39/219.Thats Millpoint and if you look off to the right you will see the old mill.Stay on 39/219 (veers to the left) and that will take you into Buckeye.Theres a hotel there.I think you would like doing the 4 miles to Marlinton via the greenbrier river trail.You can pick it up from Buckeye.If you are worried about running into trouble you can email me and I will give you a couple #s to call.
