Bernadette, my friends and I are going to ride around the Salton Sea on March 24, 2008. We'll travel south on Hwy 111 from Mecca and come back around on Hwy 86. The round trip is 117 miles. We will meet at the junction of Hwy 111 and Hwy 86 at 6:00 A.M. on March 24 for the ride. We plan on 8 hours total trip time. There are two women and one man. We live in San Bernardino County so we don't need to camp. I would suggest a nice hotel in Indio if you are coming from a long distance. Please write back. Phil Smith

Thanks for the info.  Within a week of April 10, Ill join HWY 111 from Joshua Tree National Park via Box Canyon Rd (I presume its trikabale) down to HWY 78. Do you know if the secondary and tertiary roads from Yuma to Gila Bend are vandal safe?  If reasonable that's what I'd like.  Otherwise Its a HWY 78 loop NE then SE back to Gila Bend on the way to Organ Pipes Cactus Nationa Monument.
