Western express question (NV)
« on: August 12, 2007, 11:15:29 am »
At the end of August I will be meeting up with a westbound friend on the Western Express in the Tahoe area. At least that was the original plan.  Based on the dates I have available to join him on is journey, and his progress westward, he will probably be in eastern NV instead.

So my question is:  Is there a reasonable/reliable way to get to eastern NV, say Ely, from either Sacramento or Reno without using up precious cycling days doing it on the bike?  Trust me I would bike if I had the time but as I said I have very limited time for this trip.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The Western Express route through Nevada is Highway 50 from Carson City until it turns into route 487 turning to Baker, NV right on the Utah border...It is a desolate trip (no services for 78 miles into Ely and no services for 63 miles out of Ely)...I did the Western Express in 2001 and when they say Highway 50 is the loneliest Highway in America, they tend to mean it...

Have a good ride!

There is no bus service to Ely.
There may still be a single flight per day out of Vegas.
(Looks like there is.)
Make sure they are not using North Las Vegas -
Or else you will have to schlep all you stuff across Vegas.
