Which Road Route has the least traffic?
« on: October 11, 2007, 12:23:53 pm »
Just finished the Great Divide this year and looking for another long route.  Does anyone know Adventure Cycling Road Route is likely to have the least amount of traffic?  or the widest shoulders?  Only a few of the road sections of the Great Divide were without shoulders and with heavy traffic but they were my least favorite.  Any recommendations?

Probably not the TransAmerica.  We enjoyed the trip immensely, but there were lots of miles with traffic and no shoulders.

I also just finished the GDR and have the goal Sherry has - find another long route without traffic.  After riding without traffic, I just can't imagine returning to the standard routes with cars.  I'll post my GDR blog link when I've finished updating it.

I haven't looked at it this detail, but take a look at the route defined by this fellow who rode in the GDR race earlier this year.  It looks pretty interesting to me.
