S. Dakota to Wisconsin

My wife and I are setting out on our big tour this June.  We're following the TransAm from Oregon to Yellowstone, then planning to cross Wyoming, S. Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, through Michigan into Canada.  Then we'll head down the Bruce Peninsula to Niagara, and finish on the Northern Tier to the Atlantic and then south to DC.

I'm looking for route suggestions from Badlands NP to N. Wisconsin (we're visiting family near Rhinelander).  We've got plenty of time, so the route doesn't have to be a straight shot.  Suggestions on interesting places to visit along the way are welcome.  We're touring fully-loaded and camping.

Thanks for your input!

When I rode cross country a few years ago, I rode the following route that included riding through the Badlands and the other parts of your route.  The cities are as follows:  Philip (SD) - Pierre (SD) - Miller (SD) - Desmit (SD) - Watertown (SD) - Montevideo (MN) - Hutchinson (MN) - Northfield (MN) - Pepin (WI).

You can work your way from Pepin (WI) to Rhinelander.  This route was good to keep us off the really heavy traffic roads.  I can give you more details.  We stayed at schools and campgrounds throughout the ride.

Let me know if you need more info...

From Pepin WI go south along the river to route 25 to Durand. I'd take the chippewa valley trail from durand wi to eau claire and chippewa falls and cornell. Then there are good county road routes to tomahawk or to merril or wausaw then to Rhinelander
