Best rt to Missoula

Before I order my maps for my 2009 Northern Tier ride I have a few questions. Im going as far as Cut Bank, Montana but I'm not sure whether I'll go thru Glacier Nat. Park or take Rt 2 around to Whitefish or Kalispell. From there which is the better rt to Missoula rt 83 to 200 or rt 93 straight in to Missoula. any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Fred Lonas

Hi Fred -

Much of the ride from Kasispell to Missoula via 93 might be ok, but from Ravilli to Missoula is one of the worst sections of road I have ever ridden - huge amounts of fast traffic with very little shoulder and deceivingly uphill for a good portion of it.  You need to be a pretty brave rider.

On the other hand, the ride following 83 to 200 into Missoula is much less traffic and very pretty.  It takes an extra day, but well worth it.  There is also a resort outside of Seeley lake (The Tamaracks I think) that offers free overnight camping spots for bicycle riders.

Also, if you have the chance and the time, go through Glacier and ride the "Going to the Sun" highway.  It is one awesome ride that you won't regret spending the time to do.  Go to www.redwingaquatics.com and click on the Lewis & Clark ride along the routes you are interested in.

If you need anything else, let me know.

Hello Paul, thanks for your help just the info I needed. If I have anymore questions I'll let you know. I will be stopping in Portland as my daughter lives there but hope to end in Astoria.
Thanks, fred
