TransAm on Map 12, Christiansburg VA
« on: June 20, 2008, 04:00:04 pm »
I live in Vienna, VA and am planning on the ride of map 12.... from Christiansburg to Yorktown VA.

I can then take Amtrak home.

I'm having trouble finding how to get to Christiansburg.  Amtrak & Greyhound only go closest of Marian VA.

anyone tried this yet?

I would suggest trying to see if a one way car rental to Blacksburg or Christiansburg might work.  Some rental companies soak you for a huge fee for dropping off at a different location and others not.  It might depend on location as well.  We had good luck with Alamo on the west coast, but I don't know if they are in the area.

Virginia Tech is located in Christiansburg.... it may be possible for you to pick up a student ride out there.  Maybe there is still a web presence for the campus ride-share.  That is where I would start.  Since Tech is such a large school with huge draw from NoVa, statistically speaking there is almost certainly somebody going out that way in any given week.  Good luck!

You didn't say how long you had for your trip.  Being in Vienna, you could take the bike path to Purcellville, then go to the Skyline Drive then down to Afton (Cookie Lady) and hang a left.

Have you done this ride yet?  Or, are you still planning it? If you haven't done it yet, I might be able to help.

That's a bit optimistic though. You have to get from Purcellville to Front Royal to pick up the Skyline Drive, and Afton is nowhere near Christiansburg :-)

Hi CCrew,

Yep, I understand that Afton is further north.  I used to live in Vienna and I would do a similar route you just described.  I was only offering this as a possibility to consider if the author could not find a suitable ride to Christianburg.  Of course, this thread looks to be pretty old and may not be needed by the author anymore.
