Doing the TransAm map12 section this Oct from Christiansburg to Yorktown.

Any info you guys have on the campsites along the way would be most appreciated.  Are there some that we should just totally avoid, some that are a must stay?

We plan on taking hammocks so we could 'stealth' camp a bit along the route also.

Hi:
Have you searched crazyguyonabike.com? There are many journals on the TA, with info on overnights. We did E to W in '05, using ACA map suggestions for camping. I believe the Cookie Lady's in Afton is no longer available, however. Good riding.

We were lucky enough to have friends and family on that section, so we didn't camp much.

Misty Mountain Campground west of Charlottesville was nice and fairly cheap for us since we split the cost three ways and they gave us a break for being cyclists.  It wasn't real cheap though if you are not splitting the cost.

I believe that the Cookie House is open, but there is a different contact person.  Check out the following thread:
