Eureka to Whitefish

I will be following the ACA route (North Tier) between Eureka to Whitefish
but all the journal entries I read at CGOAB indicate it is a terrible road and
with much traffic. Any options here?
I will not be loaded and will be on 700x28's..fine with most gravel roads.

The existing route stays off U.S. 93 as much as it possibly can by taking
paved side roads. As for gravel alternates you can try Lupfer Rd. (shown
on map 22 south of Olney) plus there are roads on the west side of Dickey
Lake (map 21). You can also ask the locals to see if they have any

I live along the route between Eureka and Whitefish.  The first stretch from Eureka has good shoulders, clean and wide, until about the county line at Mile marker 157, which is about 20 miles SE of Eureka.  After that the shoulders narrow to between 1 and 2 feet of pavement on the outside of the white line.  The only really bad stretch is the last few miles before you get to Whitefish.  The pavement ends at the white line, it's rough and bumpy off the pavement with washouts.  The road is curvy and the speed limit is 60 through the curves (It was 70 but they lowered the speed limit this spring on that few miles).  The traffic isn't bad during the middle of the day.  Mornings until around 9:30 have heavier traffic, as does evenings between 4:30 and 6:30.  Overall the traffic isn't really that bad.  Drivers are used to a lot of bicycles out there.

That is REALLY helpful information. I feel a whole lot better about that
section of the ACA route.
