Route suggestions, please
« on: July 21, 2008, 04:02:20 am »
Hello all,

I will have a month long holiday in January and would like to spend it on a long off-road ride somewhere. I live in UK and have been considering doing the New Mexico session of the Great Divide, but I still havent found any information on the weather during this time of the year over there. I also have been considering somewhere in Mediterranean Europe but am finding little options of lenghty off road rides, most are on road or just short routes here and there.

Would any of you be able to give me your opnion on the Great Divide NM strech in January or any suggestions for a European route?

Thank you very, very much for any help!

I would not suggest doing the New Mexico portion of the Great Divide in
January. The terrain north of Silver City is above 6,000 feet so snow can
fall at any time and gravel roads usually aren't kept open going through
forest lands. The days are also very short. The following website is a local
bike shop in Silver City, NM, and if you want to find out more about the
weather I think you could contact them and ask a few questions:

Thanks for the advice!!

My best option so far is Spain, probably the Camino de Santiago de Compostela which I understand would take about 17 days to cycle its whole off-road length. The weather is not going to be the most apropriate but at least I think I wont freeze to death.

Any opinions about this route or suggestions for other long routes in Spain?
