Has anyone done the entire, new Adventure Cycling Adirondack Loop route? Jim Sawyer announced that they would be doing a self-supported trip there next year, and I am seriously considering it for my vacation. I know the area very well, having been a licensed guide in the 'Dacks, a search and rescue volunteer, cabin owner and general camper, fisherman and hiker. That was until we moved to MN just over 20 years ago.

I just wondering what people think of the route. I would guess that the ride from Keene to Lake Placid on Hwy. 73 is a killer; all uphill through Cascade Pass and very narrow if I remember right.

Share your opinions, please!

Thanks,
Hans

I've ridden the Iron Man loop which goes the reverse direction, it goes from Lake Placid to Keene to Jay/Upper Jay/Wilmington then back to Lake Placid for a 53mileish loop (they do 2 laps).

yes, there's a sharp climb out of Keene to just about Cascade Lakes with two lanes for the most part, a slow lane and a passing lane.  The road is in OK shape as it gets beat up in the winter time with snow/winds coming off the high peaks funneling through Cascade and Pitchoff mtns.

I'm not that familiar with the route, I haven't looked at the details but it does sound like a really interesting loop. I've seen bike tourers on Boreas Road, (exit 29 off the northway) and was wondering if they were on the northern tier or DIY kind of thing.
