route across NC

Hi everyone,
I am planning a bike trip for late Spring 2009 in which I will be following the Natchez Trace north to Nashville and from there going across NC.  My goal is to end up somewhere near Goldsboro, where I have a job starting, but first I've got to get to the ocean.
My tentative plan is to cross into NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway and follow it to Ashville.  So, any suggestions on how to get from Ashville to some coastal point (preferably somewhere in the zone between New Bern and the Outer Banks?
