Cycling Around Lake Erie

I am planning a round Lake Erie trip for summer 2009.
I am looking for some suggestions for going around Detroit.

I have the Round Lake Erie book, the directions in the book only apply if you hitchhike across the Detroit river.  This is not an option that I will consider.

I have found the a ferry that is north of Detroit that accepts bikes, crosses just North of Lake St Clair and South of Algonac Park.

I plan on picking up the ACA Northern route south of Detroit and taking it back thru Buffalo, NY.

Thanks

I do not know the area, but there is a canal tow path that has been converted into a bike path which runs along the Erie canal.

I don't know if this site has the information you need, but check out: http://www.great-lakes.net/tourism/circletour/erie/

It has lots of links and route information.  It even has a biking link that may help.

Good luck,

Ray

Hi -

The ferry you are referring to is in Marine City and it is an easy ferry ride across.  Be aware that the traffic in that area is extremely heavy, next-to-no-shoulder, and very aggresive drivers.  During my entire cross country tour in 2003, it was the worst riding conditions I experienced.  Doable - just be careful on the Michigan side.
