Requesting more info on Northern Tier ride May 09. Can anyone tell me what Rt.2 xcross Michigan from Escanaba, Mi.to Duluth Minn. is like for bike riding as apposed to following the ACA rt. to Hayward then rt. 53 up to Duluth? I don't want to drop down to the St Paul are as the ACA rt does.
Thanks for help.

Hi Fredlonas -

I have driven the western part of your route (Ashland to Wentworth) - pretty flat and I think there was a shoulder.  Pretty wide open and not much in the way of services.  That will be some of your challenge if you stay on Rte 2 through the UP (Upper Pennisula) - services are limited.

When you ride into Duluth you will go down one long hill and then go back up the other side.  There is usually alot of traffic in Duluth.

The way you want to go does save some miles though and is a nice section of the country.
