AC Waypoints and Magellan GPS
« on: February 27, 2006, 11:25:35 pm »
I may have fud-lucked! I purchased a Magellan Explorist 400 with a 1 gig SD flash drive...just what I had been waiting for! I find the accuracy to be outstanding and it picks ups satelites MUCH better than the Garmin Map 76 I use at work...BUT...when I went to the Adventure Cycling GPS waypoints I see they are for the Garmin software! Arrrgh! Does anyone know if these waypoints can be converted for use in the Magellan GPS? Thank you...

Hi B_C,

The download provides the waypoint files in three formats: Garmin, GPX, and OziExplorer. http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/gps.cfm gives a short summary of programs that can transfer from these formats to your Magellan. See also its link to the GPS Data User Guide for more details. Several free programs can transfer waypoints from GPX and OziExplorer. Others can show them on a map while they do it, which helps when editing waypoints but is not necessary.

Thank you Fred! Per usual, I did not dive in deep enough...I printed off the users guide and it was very helpful! Sometimes I am amazed at how much information is available on the Adventure Cycling website!
