I just purchsed the garmin 60CX with Mapsource CD. I also bought the pre-programmed city select north ameria chip. Question: Since I have the pre-programmed city select card do I have to (able to) download the mapsource onto it or do I download mapsource onto the 64mb chip that is already in the unit then have to swap it out when I need to use city select navigation. .Im wanting to be able to download the transam waypoints and also be able to get off route and navigate using the city select but the two cards are confusing me.

Hi Hondo,

A separate internal memory stores waypoints and routes. You can change map cards without affecting them.

However, the 60Cx holds only 1000 waypoints at a time. Browse here, especially the thread "GPS with complete southern tier waypoints" starting last June 26, for ways to cope with that limit.

Im as yet undecided if Im going to transfer the ACA gps waypoints to my Garmin once I get it figured out. Not sure if I want to be that dependent on it vs. using it as my backup and maybe making my own waypoints day to day with the ability to go off route and not worry too much about it.I will be carrying the paper maps also. great forum. Its been a ton of help.
