GIS shapefiles of bike routes/trails
« on: February 02, 2007, 08:51:13 pm »
I realize this is the GPS discussion, but...

I am wondering if anyone knows of where I could get GIS shapefiles of bike routes/trails so that I could load them into ArcMap and create custom maps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Andi,

OziExplorer http://www.oziexplorer.com/ can convert GPS tracks and waypoints from the common formats (GPX, PLT, etc.) into shapefiles. It is a decent mapping program on its own, although less general than ArcMap. I have used it to exchange shapefiles of hiking and ski trails with other organizations.

A Google search for "GPS bicycle tracks" without the quotation marks gets lots of data for you to work with.

You could use SAS.Planet for working with OziExplorer + Google Maps or others
