27" touring tires?
« on: July 02, 2004, 06:15:32 pm »
I have a Nishiki Seral touring bike which has seen many 50+ mile single day rides in Baja and Southern California, but mostly a darkened garage for the last several years. I would like to start muti-day road touring along the Pacific Coast. The most popular touring tires do not seem to be available in 27x1-1/4" size. I love this sturdy bike and the wheelset has been flawless. What would be a good choice of tires for fully loaded touring in a 27" size? Also, I really hate flats and this may be my first experience on wet roads.

Not a recommendation, but check out manufacturer websites such as:

Good luck!

I also ride an old Raleigh toruing bike with 27" wheels. You can find a wide variety of 27" tires an dwheels at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/hub.html.

I bought the Michelin World Tours which are nice and big for loaded touring.

Nashbar and Performance both list 27" tires.  They aren't super light or the latest in cutting edge technology but they are available is a couple of widths and should be suitable for touring or recreational riding.
