securing panniers on day trips
« on: October 14, 2004, 04:09:17 am »
am planning a tour
it is likely i will want to do some daytrips
every now and then in between stops
during the day
without being loaded down by the panniers
any suggestions on how to secure them
off the bike?

a similar question arises
when i need to walk to see what i want to see
without the bike
how can i secure the bike and the panniers
while i'm walking around town?

best thing you can do is park your bike in a high visibility area so that no-one will be tempted to mess with your stuff. as for doing daytrips if you are staying at a campground usually i find they will set your bags aside and keep an eye on them for you.

when fully loaded and touring i keep all my valuables and documents in a fanny pack and unclip it from the rear of my bike to just wear around but also use some some luggage locks for securing my bags shut, mine have double zippers. i figure that no-one will mess with a fully loaded touring bike and so far i haven't been wrong but i would be careful, especially in big cities or high tourist areas.
