Schwinn bike

I am primarily a mtn. biker but did my first tour last year (Natchez Trace).  I used my mtn. bike.  I have an opportunity to purchase a Schwinn Passage (5-6 yrs. old), less than 1100 miles on it, great condition.  Would this be a good bike for touring? I can't spend a lot on a 2nd bike. Oh, the seller is asking $250.  I plan on touring 1-2 times per year.
