Touring tire for mountainbikes

I need a recommendation on what tire to use for touring the country. We will be using mountainbikes with  BOB trailers traveling the Northern Tier which will be pavement. Any 26" tire suggestions would be helpful!

Schwalbe Marathons.  The Supreme is the best IMHO.  Very light for a 2" wide 26" tire.

The Schwalbe is an excellent "tyre", if you can find them and afford them.

I have had excellent results with WTB All-Terrainasaurus (-es?) with the same pair on my patrol/touring/knock-around bike for over 2000 miles with NO problems. I just replaced the rear, although there was still tread left on the old one. I will keep it for a spare. www.wtb.com

I've had 26x1.75" Marathon Plus tires on my Novara Safari fat-tired touring bike for a year and am completely satisfied with them.  I've put about 2,500 miles on them, including a 1,200-mile tour on pavement, railtrails and canal trails.  I've had only one puncture, a miracle in everything-has-thorns Arizona.  The tires have a built-in puncture-resistant belt, so are heavy, but so what?  The 1.75" width is fine for pavement, while allowing for unplanned off-pavement riding.  The tires show virtually no sign of wear.  I ordered the tires from www.biketiresdirect.com, which seems to carry about every kind of tires.  The cost was about $34/tire -- pricy, but worth it for the reliability and long wear.

I have used Specialized Armadillo 26 X 1.5 with good success.  I use them for off road as well, so they take a lot of punishment.  I have never had a problem with glass, but have had a few flats with sharp rocks shaped like a pyramid, mostly when my tires are at 90 psi or higher.

I'm in full agreementof using the Schwalbe Marathons they are great tires I even bought one for my BoB.

I use Continental Touring Contact 26 x 1.75 on my touring bike. They have a smooth strip down the center and knobs at the side in case you hit the dirt.
