Surly Cross Check?

Does anybody have personal experience using the Surly Cross Check frame for touring/commuting/all-around riding?  My old reliable heavily modified Diamondback Lakeside has become my Minnesota winter bike, so I'm looking for a new good all-purpose ride.

p.s. I know about the LHT, the frame geometry doesn't work for me.

No personal experience, but a friend has one and he loves it. He's a daily
commuter.  They look sturdy.

Hey there, my girlfriend rides a 54cm cross check and toured about 3500 miles on it last year... absolutely loved it and the bike is still pretty... if you think forest green is pretty.  She used front and rear bags for about 2500 mi and only rear on the second trip.
