Buying Panniers (Singles? Pairs?)
« on: January 31, 2008, 03:10:19 am »
Hello, First of all thank you for all the great advice. Hopefully someday
I'll know enough to contribute some knowledge myself!

This might sound like a novice question, but as a novice, here goes: I'm
looking for panniers for  a huge, self sufficient, 3 month cross country
trip this summer and most of the websites I'm looking at do not specify
whether the panniers come in sets of two or if you buy each
individually. What is the standard (if there is one)?

I just don't want to get enticed by a low priced rear pannier and end up
with half of what I was asking for.

On the same note, any recommendations?

Thanks!

Most come in pairs.  FWIW: The house brand ones from Performance and Nashbar are a good value in my opinion.  The three of us used a mix of Nashbar Waterproof and Transit (Performance) on our TransAmerica and were very happy with them.  The price is reasonable, they are always on sale and you can get an additional 10-20% off if you watch their ads and are patient.  We didn't baby them and they are still in great shape.

Hello... I use and think Ortlieb Panniers are the best.. Have used them for two years and many tours.. They are a bit more expensive but 100% waterproof and yes they come in Pairs.. What ever brand you get consider a waterproof pannier and enjoy your trip this summer..  PAUL :)
