cyclocross bike for long distance touring?

I have been shopping for another bike...6 isn't enough yet...
I really want a bentbike, but came across the Specialized Tri Cross Comp. After riding it, I loved it. I can only get one bike right now. I aM seriously considering tossing the Recumbent dreams right now and maybe going with the Tri Cross. It rode beautifully. I have been told by many that it is a very comfortable bike and comes with 3 bottle bosses too.

You might want to look at that one...
Best of luck,
BIKEME

Bardism...congrats on the new Comp. I am still wrestling between a Tour Easy and the Tri Cross. I will probably end up getting both eventually.

Please give me an update after you log some seat time. I would love to hear the pros and cons in your mind.

Fair winds and following streets my friend,

Not really on topic but the prevailing winds on the PC are definately north to south.  I did it the way you planned on a perimeter tour but had major headwinds most days.  One day I was in my !@#$% small chainring the entire day.  If you can, I would highly suggest going the other direction.

Just my 3 cents (inflation & all)

Happy trails and may the wind be at your back!

Well, Tulsa, Ive changed my plans indeed because of wind direction. I'll cycle down to San Diego from San Francisco. Wind is not only strong, pretty chilly as well I realize now.

cheers!

I had a Miyata steel cyclocross bike that I wanted to go touring with. The bike was the wrong size and as R.Seaton mentioned, the chain stays were too short and my heels would hit the panniers. I bought the right size touring frame from Nashbar and was pleasantly surprised. The frame had luggage bosses, bosses on the fork, three water bottle bosses, and tabs to attach fenders. The frame is 7005 Aluminum and the fork is Chromemolly. The overall finish is excellent--painted in a metallic green. I transferred the components from the Miyata-Suntour Triple,48-38-28,Suntour freewheel-12-34. Modolo drop bars with Diacompe brake levers, Suntour Bar-end shifters, Tektro Onix cantiliever brakes, Axiom luggage rack. Wheels are American Classic-extra strong, and the tyres are Continental 36C. I also have Planet Bike full fenders.Panniers and trunk are large Nashbar. I also have a 15W Halogen headlight with a NmH battery that fits into a bottle cage. I tried the bike out for a 50mi run and am very pleased with the results.
