From transamerica going south

We are Three young Female Bikers who started the Trans America trail going west very late in the season.  We quickly realized that we would have to travel south.  We are headed in to Kansas in two days and plan to head south through New Mexico to meet up with the southern Teir.  If anyone has any thoughts or route advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you'll be going down US54 or US60 and 70 - not the most interesting part of New Mexico. Most of the sights in New Mexico are in the north central part of the state - Taos, Santa Fe, the Antonito CO to Chama NM scenic steam railroad, etc. But the higher altitudes there will make it too cold this late in the year.              
You're smart to get as far south as possible. I did San Francisco to Florida October 22 to December 20 and didn't suffer badly from the cold. You will also be cutting out a lot of climbing. Good luck with the winds in Kansas. They can be fierce out of the SE and S. But you can always jog west a bit if you have to.

Another thought: I don't know what your final destination is but if you plan to go north in California that late in the year you might want to avoid going up the coast. You will have alternate headwinds and rainstorms. If your final destination is San Francisco or Oregon you might consider going up the central valleys - not terribly scenic but flat with mild weather.

thanks for the advice...our final destination is now San Deigo...we will be traveling north however we plan to take a train.
