Hi Everyone,
Looking for a route from Yellowstone National Park to San Francisco, California. Searched Adventure cycling maps but didn't see a feasible route. Anyone done this before? Can it done? Please post as soon as possible. Thanks.  :quest:

I've done it but via a northern route. I crossed southern Idaho and entered Oregon near Ontario. Then through John Day (US26) and Eugene to Florence on the coast. Then down the coast to San Francisco. Nice trip with surprisingly few headwinds and no really long, lonely stretches.
Going more directly through Nevada is doable but you will have some truly long stretches of nothing. Ditto if you go via US20 and 395 in Oregon although it would be nice to take in Crater Lake.

As a rough guess, I think you have really two main options.  First is to put together a route like Litespeed described: Idaho, Oregon, California.  The other option I see is to head south first, into Utah, and then follow the Western Express or a similar route.  As Litespeed said, you will see many long, lonely stretches of road on this route; and it probably isn't any shorter.  I'm also unsure how to route around Salt Lake City.

Good Luck, sounds like a fun trip.

Let me know if you do end up passing through Salt Lake.  I've only been here for 6 mos, so I don't yet know the best routes surrounding the city, but I can help you navigate the town itself and would treat you to some dinner at the best Mexican place in town.
