Crossing KS, not using Trans Am

Anyone have experience crossing Kansas using Hwy 36 or Hwy 4?  Need to get to KC and the Trans Am is too far south.

Are you sure you don't mean routes US 36 or 24?    I've only crossed the state on 50 and 54 - to the south - but I can tell you that Kansas roads are generally good with paved shoulders. The wind is the problem. I fought E and SE headwinds all the way across Colorado and Kansas as far as Dodge City. The worst headwinds I've ever dealt with. But that was bad luck. Talking to other cyclists and residents told me that a week earlier would have been worse and a week later would have been no wind.
