Looking for Cross Country Tour Group that accepts Trikes

Hi.

I want to travel coast to coast but being a newbie I wanted to do it on an organized tour group.  The only 2 I have found have said they do not accept trikes on the route.  Does anyone know of other groups that do? Thanks.

I do not have an answer, but I do have a question. Why do some organized tours reject trikes? I have see upright trikes and recumbent trikes. Why would trikes be banned? Just curious.

Well, I figured there had to be some tangible reason why they said no to trikes. Weather emergencies do happen. I have been caught out in at least four weather emergencies I can think of right off the bat. Storms can be lethal. They just don't have the equipment for carrying trikes.

Hey, Mike:  Well, tell 'em to pound sand and gear up for your own crossing.  With some reasonable training and a few shorter shake-down tours, there is absolutely no reason to rely on someone else.  Doing it on your own or with a good friend or two will be much more satisfying and save you thousands of dollars.  With ACA maps and bit of grit, you can do it.  Don't let your uncertainty hold you back!

Right on Mike. You don't need that tour group and their non-trike-carrying sag wagon. You might be surprised to know how satisfying a solo, cross-country, cycling tour can be, or with some companions. You decide all the stops and the what to dos on your own tour. Give it a shot. The weather be hanged. Just keep an ear out for the weather channel.

I would imaging they don't want to have to carry a trike in the sag wagon if the need should arise.  I am neither a trike fan or a recumbent fan, but agree that it is better to just do it on your own.

There's lots of them.  To each his own -- if the OP wants a supported tour, who are we to pass judgement.

Adventure Cycling is not offering a coast to coast supported tour.  Cycle America is in 2010.  PacTour true.  Not sure I would say there are lots of them, but some.  Not judging.  Just was not aware anyone was doing such an extended supported tour ride.  Lot of committment and cost to have support people and trucks for 2+ months.

There is a supported cross country tour offered by Adventure Cycling that is currently full but taking waiting list reservations. Details can be found here:

Everyone has to measure road safety for themself.....but due to width of trike on many shoulder-less roads and low profile for visibility for vehicles coming from behind,  I cannot recommend a trike for an extended tour.
I can get you in touch with a cyclist who started a cross-country on a trike and switched to his upright road bike after a week if you like.
