Going My Way?
« on: March 19, 2009, 01:10:13 pm »
Just checking...I'm leaving the El Paso area March 28 headed east on the ACA southern tier. Anyone going to be going my way? Anyone going west that I might meet?

Not me. I will not even be on the continent of North America during the time of your tour. Have a good time. It took me exactly thirty days to get from southeast coastal Florida to El Paso in 2007. How long do you think you will be on the road? I did not cycle every day. You will catch the warm weather, not the sweltering temperatures of July and August.

I plan to be back in Ohio by late July...via the east coast. I've changed my route in the south to avoid the border. Not a good place for a woman alone on a bicycle.

It is possible to go by way of Midland and Odessa, TX, and over Guadalupe Pass. I took that route in 1884-85. El Paso has a rating of the third safest city in the USA. It is its proximity to Ciudad Juarez, and the roads west of El Paso along the Mexican border that might possibly present a problem to the unsuspecting lone female cyclist. I really don't think anything would happen to you, but then I am not you, and I am not a woman, so that kind of puts me out of trying to decide what is the right road or the wrong road.
