Is there a better Southern Tier to Trans Am Connector?

I am looking to go cross country next year.  Starting in San Diego and heading east.  At the moment the way to connect to the TransAm is to go 600 miles north on the Grand Canyon Connector.  Looks like a pretty ride, but we hate not going forward!  Any work being done of a route that angles north from AZ though NM and perhaps Amarillo?

ACA is not presently working on a route like you listed. I suggest that you contact the state bike/ped coordinators for the states you might think you'd go through. Race Across the West, RAW, run by RAAM goes in that general direction.  I'm assuming there is only about one road between these towns so finding the route they use should be easy.  Somewhere along here you could likely make a northward jog to catch the Trans America route.  Since this is a bicycle race, I'm guessing the roads are somewhat not heavily trafficed.
