Chris King rear hub skips when pedaling after coasting

Has anyone had this problem.  Its more of an annoyance than anything else, however, I'm worried that it might get worse.  And, it is an expensive hub.  It has about 6,000 miles on it, 3300 touring the L&C trail.

I hope it can be repaired, because it has been great up to now.

Make certain there's no tension on the chain going into the hub, if there is the gears will not be fully engaged. 

Also, cut the finger off a rubber glove and slip it oveer the entrance into the hub.  That will keep sand from getting in side.

Had a similar problem on the TransAm after a run-in with some mud in Kansas: contaminated the innards of the hub. A cleaning and re-lube solved it. Do you have the maintenance pamphlet? If not, download from their web site. Also, they have a video on lubricating the hub which is instructive. Two 5 mm Allen wrenches are all the tools needed. It's a simple job. Good luck.

If you've had the hub for five years or less, it's still under warranty and you can send it back to Chris King.  It sounds to me like the internal ratchet system has worn down, and is no longer grabbing.

As others noted lubing will help. I recently had to have my CK tandem hub 'serviced', for about the third time for the same problem you describe. It was noted that power washing near the hub is not a good idea. Given that the innards are aluminum, I suspect the hub is not that suited to touring. My LB repair guy noted that it was pretty worn (at 6 years old). Next one will be a Phil.
