Cycling Sandals

So far my Keen sandals have been great. I did 40 mi a couple of days ago and 20mi today without sinching them down. i know i'm a beginner, but i like them.....

I like the Keens too, but the cleats scare me!  Too old to be biting the black top.

I think that’s the tradeoff. The Shimano sandal is stiff which is great for riding but not walking. I found the Keens to be a little harder to release from the cleat, but I thought that was adjustment and lubrication. I’ll tweak on it a little today to see if that gets any better.... I’m a beginner and I’ve used the Keens bare footed for two 40mi rides and they’ve been very comfortable. I may not  be transferring maximum power because they are pliable as you have stated....

I have never used a sandal. However, I have read many opinions of those who have. Everybody seems to give a thumbs-up on sandals, and that's all I need to know.

 I bought a pair of "Nashbar" sandals made by Exustar. They are real comfy and easy to walk in with an arch support and healcup footbed as well as a good stiff cycling sole. The cleat mounting area of the sole is recessed enough that one can walk in them without the cleat hitting the ground. I like 'em alot.

I have Shimanos and Keen.  I like the Keen the best

I've used the Shimano, the Lake, and the Lake I/O sandals. I've also tried on the keens as well.

The Keen's were a narrow fit which was kinda odd since Keen had a rep for wider more comfortable shoes. The Shimano's were good, but then they switched the way they made the straps just when I needed a new pair, so I switched to the Lake sandals. They had a good stiff sole but were hard to walk in compared to the Shimano. Then I got the Lake I/O sandals, the right combo of stiffness and still be able to hike around in them. They also have a large toe box, (I wear 10 1/2 EEE New Balance) plus I don't look like a dork walking around in them.
