Check list for the trans am
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:15:49 pm »
Hey everyone...I'm heading out for my first x-country trip....I'm taking the trans am from west to east and using the western express to start.  I'm just looking for experienced tourists to give me a glimpse of their checklist for equipment.  I mean I have a good idea of what I need but would like to have a list of things that everyone makes sure to bring.  If anyone could submit their list or recomend one they think was good i'd really apreciate this.  Opinions are welcome but experience is preferred

Hi there,

We have an article in our How To section that addresses this very topic, http://www.adventurecycling.org/features/packing.cfm. Or Judy Colwell, who has traveled many miles on her bike, has an extensive list on her web page, http://www.stanford.edu/~jcolwell/.

If you want to read the experiences of three first time Trans America riders, you may find our journal useful and/or entertaining.

There is a packing list and a "What Worked and What Didn't" section.  I tried to share what we learned there.

Thanks for the advice on places to look at a checklist for the trans am.  I read the entire journal on two grads and a dad and found it informative and interesting.  I'll def be using your packing list as a guideline for my own.  Thanks so much.
