What's on your iPod?
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:09:38 pm »
I'm compiling some music for a few playlists to listen to while on the quiet stretches of my upcoming TransAm ride. Anyone want to share what they like to hear while spinning the pedals during those long, hard days of climbing, etc?

Cycling in the more urban areas will not be conducive to listening and I know keeping a focus is essential, though I'm sure there will be times on the road some tunes can be justified. Let's hear what you enjoy...

Aloha.

I have never used an iPod while riding.  I cannot attest to how safe you will be listening to your iPod on the TransAm.

But I do use my iPod while driving in my car, a lot.  I might add that my car was modified to play the iPod through the car's exisiting sound system.  No ear buds for me while driving my car.

Everyone's concept of tunes will differ.  I am a big fan of audiobooks.  If you blew your entertainment budget outfitting the bike, there are free audiobooks at LIBRIVOX.ORG.

Any ideas on how you will keep your iPod charged?

As far as safety is concerned, I usually go with one headphone, and keep the ear facing traffic open.  Having an emergency vehicle come screaming past you while you're jamming out is never pleasant.

Here's a recent post I did on my list.

I'm a safety-nik and someone in tune with the earth and other riders so don't get into the headphones-on-a-bike thing, but otherwise I'd say get a subscription to XM/Sirius radio and listen to sattelite radio as you pedal or check into your local library to see if you can download books on mp3 player like you can here in NH.

I also listen to music while riding, I use headphones, not earbuds. I keep the music low and it is easy to hear oncoming traffic. I agree, on long stretches of roads, music is a welcome distraction. Personally I like the blues, it gets me up the hill.
