New York City - Martha's Vineyard
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:06:40 pm »
I'm seeking to cycle from either Woods Hole, New Bedford, or Quonset Point [town of North Kingstown] down to New York City (or vice versa).   So far I have directed to Andy Rubel's maps (www.bikemaps.com) for MA routes, Rosemary Jason's maps ( hungrynomadmaps.com) for some RI routes, and to NY/CT/RI State-produced cycling maps.   I'm also aware of the AC's Atlantic Coast Route and somewhat aware of the East Coast Greenway route.  I would appreciate any guidance or cue sheets from anyone who has done this ride or parts of this ride (i.e. Pan Mass Challenge cue sheets for routes off the Cape, Boston-NY Aids Ride for routes to NYC, etc).  Thank you very much.

Sounds like you have all your bases covered, I like the Atlantic Coastal route as it takes you through Northern CT versus the more busy coastline and the Rubel maps for MA.

A good website for NYC trails and routes that you could use as you get closer to NYC is Roberts:

http://www.roberts-1.com/bikehudson/

It should give you the standard routes to get you into NYC from Westchester County (north of the Bronx) or if you do cross the hudson from Rockland County through NJ over the George Washington Bridge (aka the GWB)...

There are also some nice rail trails in Westchester county that you could use and the Harlem valley railtrail is right off the Atlantic Coastal route as it runs from Amenia/Hillsdale (if completed) down to Wassaic where there is a metro-north train station. It's a paved MUP that I've taken when touring towards new england from NJ before.
