Where To Park
« on: July 15, 2009, 01:14:03 am »
I am Not sure if this is a dumb question but I just don't know...
I'm planning on doing the Adirondack loop in August... Where should I park my car for the week I will be gone?

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help...

I ask the local police or sheriff and have always had good, friendly answers. Sometimes it's right beside the police station, sometimes in a well-lighted mall or college area that they patrol. In tiny towns, I ask at the grocery store with the same good results.

That route begins only a couple of miles from the Albany County Airport, which has long-term parking.  Google Maps should get you there, but feel free to contact me off-list if you need directions between the two.

If you are staying in a local hotel or motel prior to or immediately following the ride, the manager/owner may let you leave your car there for the needed days.  We were able to do that for a 5 day ride in the Finger Lakes since we stayed at a local motel in Pen Yan on our last night.

Also, ask the ride organizers or the local bike club if there are any local riders that might let you use their home driveways.

I got this piece of advice talking to someone who had toured. Try a local storage location. They almost always have vehicles sitting inside the fenced area. I have not tried this idea but it sounds like a good possibility.

Here's a question I can answer.
Two years ago we did a loop tour of the Adirondacks.
It is well worth the trip and I would do it again.
At the visitor center in Speculator, we asked the same question.
A friendly employee there owned a local restaraunt (good food) and B&B.
She permitted us to park on her property.
We were going to ask the police...but thanks to her worked out well for us.
