Bike Clothing For Glacier National Park

Hello........
I am biking from West Glacier National Park to Waterton National Park in Canada and back to West Glacier! I am starting on Sept. 3, 2009 . Self contained tour & camping. I am trying to figure out what the best clothing is to take. I have shorts, jerseys, light weight biking jacket. I have been looking online what to order and am looking for a little help form my fellow Adventure Cyclists... :-)
I am from So. California.... trying to figure out what I have to get to keep warm and be prepared.
If anyone has done this area, I'd love to hear from you...

The average low for September for Glacier National Park is 39 degrees F.  The average high is 67.  It also averages 2 inches of rain.  This info is from the parks website:  http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/weather.htm.  I'd be taking some long sleeve stuff and long fingered gloves.  The record low in September is 18.

I'll be riding through Glacier 8/14-15.  I'll be riding in a long sleeve and long pant Coolmax baselayer and eVent rainwear.  Off the bike I'll use an insulating layer - a light Polarguard jacket.

We were in Glacier NP in mid-September, 2004 and drove from St. Mary to West Glacier on the Going-To-The-Sun Road.   Approaching the top of Logan Pass (at 6646 ft, it isn't that high) we drove through a blinding snowstorm and sub freezing temperatures that lasted for many miles on both sides of the pass.   

Plan for something similar and have appropriate clothing.  Take several layers and use all-synthetics or wool which will allow you to add or subtract clothing as needed but prepare for temperature extremes.

i use to live in columbia falls....
and would bike the road up to polebridge....
the temp swing can be as much a 50 degrees....
from just before sunrise until mid-morning
and the early cold fall rain showers....or snow....

I'd be prepared for frost in the Rockies, especially at that time of year. It could be gorgeous and warm, or it could be snow.

Mountains can make their own weather. 

My wife and I arrived at Grand Canyon, South Rim in late May.  It was a balmy 70 degrees.  The next morning the temperature was something less than 20 and their was six inches of snow on the ground.

Make sure people know where you are.
