Seattle to Salt Lake?
« on: August 03, 2009, 03:16:47 pm »
Hi,
I am new to the this whole thing, but am very excited to embark on a multi-day/week adventure and would love to go from Seattle to Salt Lake City.
My biggest weakness is I know nothing about routing this whole thing and there is not an easy answer looking at the Adventure Cycling maps. Is there anyone willing to give me a hand? My friend and I are doing this to raise money for the Children's Hospital and although she has done a trip like this before, she was able to use the pacific coast map, and follow it all the way through her trip.
If this destination from Seattle is not possible, or will end up taking a huge roundabout to get there, do any of you have suggestions for an alternate ending point? I am probabaly far less advanced and qualified than any of you out there, but I want to do this, so a little guidance would be great. I've got the motivation and drive, now I just need a route. Probabaly best if I didn't try to tackle the most difficult, extrenuous route out there... but I am open to any suggestions.
I appreciate the help!
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

A good place to start looking at roads and possible routes is at the Department of Transportation websites for each of the states you'd like to pass through. Some states have great info available online for free even. All states have a Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator you can talk to as well. Contact information can be found at this site: http://www.walkinginfo.org/assistance/contacts.cfm. Feel free to post any further questions here or to ask for advice about specific routing you're considering.

Good luck and have fun. Be sure to report back when you've returned home and let us know how it went.

.Jennifer.
