The first paragraph of my message above was a quote from  another member.  I can't figure out how you guys do this quote thing so it says "quote from...."  Can anyone tell me how this works?  I'm kind of a computer "newbie".  thanks for any directions you can give!
Hi John,
On each individual post there should be a link in the upper right hand corner that says, "Reply with quote". If you choose that it should add the message you want to quote with the quote tags around it. That is what instructs the forums to add the quote from heading and show that portion of the post as a quote. When you give it a try you will see how it adds the quotes and you can remove a portion of the post at that point if you want or need to. Hope this helps!

So why didn't my response get "boxed in" its own box like yours did?  I left the word "quote" above and below the part I wanted to use from your post, thinking this would do it.  Jeez, I feel dumb sometimes.

When you use the quote button it adds information to the opening quote tag that allows it to display the person and post that is being quoted. In your last post with the quote attempt it looks like it had two closing quote tags. the "/" in front of the word quote signifies that it is a closing tag. The opening tag will start with the word quote and not have the /.

Click on the "reply with quote" link to the right of this post and you should see a proper example of how the quote tags should work.

OK here goes.  I'm making sure the / is in front of the one I want to be the closing one only.

Should I have erased the word "quote" from the start of it, too?  thanks for your patience.

If you use the "reply with quote" link you should not have to do anything at all except type in your response.

Sure. Click on "Reply with quote" in the upper right corner of the message you want to quote. You might want to edit out some parts that you are not answering, particularly if the message is long. Just be sure to leave the quote stuff between the square brackets alone.

Welcome to the group!

You must live in Antarctica.

Your post is suspicious.  If it is found that you're just here to abuse the forum for free advertising for your unrelated websites, you will be kicked out.
