Loop Ride VA/WV/PA
« on: September 10, 2009, 08:43:12 am »
Hello,
I'm new to this forum and looking for advice from folks who are familiar with northern VA/WV/PA. We're planning a ride on the BRP-Skyline Drive- C&O Canal at Harpers Ferry- GAP at Boston, PA. Does anyone have any ideas for a loop ride back to Montebello, VA so we don't have to do an out and back ride?

well, regarding the w.va or va part you could incorporate part of the allegheny mountains loop that ACA has mapped out....or you could ride on route 11 from northern area of Virginia all the way down to vesuvius area, which i'm assuming is where you might turn off to get to montebello?  just a few ideas...i'd got with incorporating allegheny mtns loop rather than riding route 11 for a few days...either way nice views of mountains.
good luck

Thanks Michael.  We thought about riding portions of the Allegheny Mtn Loop, maybe taking in a scenic train ride at Cass or Durbin. I remember the 5 miles of switchbacks from Vesuvius to the BRP when we rode the TransAm! Nothing I'd care to repeat but it's only 5 miles, oyvey! I would like to see the NRAO in Green Bank...........Maybe we'll head down from the BRP to Vesuvius then make our way towards the AML.........flexibility is key for us.
